Krishna Kumar Gaur/Jodhpur. With the fall in onion prices, housewives have now heaved a sigh of relief. After the ban on export of onion by the Central Government, now its prices have started falling. Onion, which was being sold at Rs 50-60 a few days ago, is now being sold at Rs 15-25 per kg. At the same time, good quality big onion is being sold at around Rs 20-25 per kg.
According to onion traders, onion prices may reduce further in the coming days. Garlic, which has reached a higher altitude than onion, is still sharp. According to the traders of the agricultural produce market, onion prices have started falling after the ban on export. Onion prices are expected to reduce further in the coming time.
Ban on export of onion provided relief
Let us tell you that the Central Government had banned the export of onion on December 8. This ban has been imposed till March 31, 2024. After this ban, the price of onion decreased in Maharashtra, the largest onion producing state. Due to this, onion started being supplied as per the demand and consumption in all parts of the country. The prices of onion have become soft due to good arrival of onion in wholesale markets. At the same time, the impact of softening onion prices is also visible in retail. Earlier, where customers were getting one and a half to two kilos of onion for Rs 100, now 4-5 kilos are being sold for Rs 100. Good quality big onion is being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg.
Garlic now raises concerns
Garlic is being sold in wholesale at Rs 100-150 per kg. At the same time, it is being sold in retail for Rs 250-300 per kg. The supply of garlic has stopped from Mandsaur in the garlic producing state of Madhya Pradesh. According to traders, after January 15, when the new crop arrives from Madhya Pradesh, its prices will start falling.
